BC Municipal Election Day

BC General Local Elections are coming up on October 15th, 2022, and we want you to choose candidates that recognize food security as a priority policy issue. General local elections are the most direct way for you to influence your local government to build a more food-secure BC.

Our goal is for policy-makers to continue supporting the charitable food sector and address the underlying causes of food insecurity.

How to take action:

  1. Learn more about your candidate’s stance when it comes to food policy

  2. FIVE questions to ask your candidates

    • Will you describe ways that you plan to support local food production and improve access to healthy foods for low or fixed-income people?

    • If you were elected, what might be the first thing you will do to ensure that [enter your municipality here] have at all times, economic access to affordable, culturally appropriate and nutritious food?

    • Do you support increasing municipal funding for community food security programs?

    • Black, Indigenous, and racialized people experience food insecurity at much higher rates in Canada. What will you do to address this issue?

    • How will you prioritize poverty reduction?

  3. Contact your local MLA, calling on them to take action against growing issues of food insecurity within your community

  4. VOTE
