What is the Rescued Food Box Program?

The Rescued Food Box (RFB) program is a weekly food box, packed with healthy perishable food, delivered to members in our community. The program is intended for people with low income who have a disability and/or chronic health condition that makes it difficult to access other food services.

Each food box contains around 25 pounds of rescued food that has been picked up from grocery stores, sorted and packed by our staff and volunteers.

Costing $10 per week to help sustain the program, the RFB program aims to help individuals maximize their resources and create healthier eating habits, while reducing financial and physical barriers to accessing food.

To be eligible for our weekly Rescued Food Box program, you must be located within our service area and have a self-disclosed disability and/or chronic health condition that makes accessing food challenging for you. If you are able to access our physical facilities, please visit our weekly Rescued Food Market.

What is a Best Before Date?

Best before dates are not expiry dates nor are they indicators of food safety. Best before dates indicate the anticipated amount of time that an unopened food product—stored safely—will retain its freshness, flavour, texture, and nutritional content. Read more.
