El Mercado de Alimentos Rescatados es un mercado asequible y sostenible que ofrece excedentes de calidad rescatados de supermercados, granjas y mayoristas. Los Alimentos Rescatados son alimentos excedentes descartados por los proveedores por diversas razones, como imperfecciones, exceso de inventario o proximidad a la fecha de vencimiento. ¡Sin embargo, siguen siendo alimentos comestibles, saludables y de calidad!

Our Rescued Food Market operates with a membership system, granting access to registered members. Each cohort of registered members will have access to 12 markets over a 3-month period - 1 market per week - on Thursdays from 3-7 pm.

Due to the high demand for the market program, membership is determined by a randomized lottery following online registration. One week before the start of each new market cycle, we hold a lottery to determine membership for the subsequent 3 months. This allows equal opportunity for previous members and new prospective members to access the market. 

If chosen in the lottery, each participant will be assigned a regular weekly appointment time. If assistance is needed with online registration for the lottery, in-person help is available at the Food Stash Warehouse. Please contact us for assistance.

There is a $36 registration fee to sign up as a member (for a 3-month membership). You will be assigned a regular, weekly appointment time and receive a membership card upon signing up. When you come to the market, please show your membership card.

Please arrive on time to your scheduled appointment.

You'll have personal produce boxes that you're free to shop from and a selection of meat and dairy. Both the variety and quantity of food will vary each week based on which foods are available each week from our surplus food donors.

The Rescued Food Market is open to everyone regardless of income or socio-economic status. There is no need for people to ‘prove’ they are in need.

The space is intended to provide food, educate people about food waste, and to reclaim the value of surplus or unsold food. We want to welcome everyone in the community. 

As of 2026, about 370 people apply for a three-month market membership each market cycle, and there are only 160 membership spots available.

Please bring your membership card to each visit. We are no longer able to provide shopping bags, so please ensure you bring your own reusable shopping bags to the market.

The market is intended to:

1. Welcome everyone

2. Provide a market experience centred on dignity and choice

3. Improve community access to healthy, affordable food

4. Serve as a space to learn about the environmental impact of food waste and a circular economy

There is no free parking available - only limited paid street parking.

We are conveniently located near the Science World Skytrain terminal and the #3, 8, and 84 bus routes.

Our market space is wheelchair accessible. The tables where you receive your produce box are mostly above 54 inches tall, but we do have shorter tables set up and available.

If all members arrive within their 15 minute appointment time there would be very few line ups or waits. However, sometimes people may arrive early or late and may need to wait in those cases.

We try to balance people's needs, and sometimes a lot of people show up at once! Lineups and crowds are not ideal, so the more members can please stay within their time slots, the less often lineups will happen.

The market program is an in-person shopping experience.

We do have a Rescued Food Box program that offers delivery to households with low incomes and a disability or chronic health issue that make it hard to leave home.

The food available at the Market changes every week, depending on what grocery stores and other food donors contribute. We would like to offer more vegan, gluten-free and halal options, for example, but they are not in the majority of rescued food items at this time.

If you don’t immediately see an option for you, always feel free to ask if we have it!

We post signs on items that are limited, and hope everyone stays within those guidelines. This helps us distribute items more evenly across the whole Market day.

Our volunteers are available throughout the Market to assist members and make sure they’ve seen the signage and know the limits.

Sometimes, we receive large quantities of particular items, and members may be welcomed to take as much as they can reasonably use, without limit. Please check signage or ask a volunteer if you have questions.

We welcome and consider all suggestions! However, since the lottery and Market cycle turnover take a significant amount of admin work, we are currently not able to do a lottery more frequently than once every 3 months.

The short answer is no. Accidentally applying twice under the same name and email address will not disqualify you, but duplicate entries are deleted. These accidental entries are easy to spot and we use a formula to make sure all entries are unique.  

Disqualification happens when:

1. Individuals use multiple email addresses or names to gain more entries

2. Individuals use the email addresses of friends or relatives with the intention of taking the membership as their own

3pm - 3:15pm is definitely the most frequently-requested time slot, but just because it’s early, it does not necessarily have the best or biggest selection of items. The team makes sure to bring new items and restock throughout the Market.
