10 years of rescuing good food from going to waste…really makes the value of food obvious.

Starting today, donations to Food Stash will be matched* thanks to South Flats by PCI Developments and Low Tide Properties, and thanks to Anthem Properties.

In Canada, about 47% of our food goes to waste. “Imperfect” fruits and vegetables are often rejected so that consumers see nothing but perfect-looking products, and food is over-ordered to keep shelves full.

This means water, soil, labour, energy, and other resources are wasted on food that is never eaten.

Harmful greenhouse gases are emitted into our atmosphere whenever food rots in a landfill.

And all the while 1 in 4 of us struggle to put enough food on the table.

What if we could rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste, and let it do what good food does best?

When you donate to Food Stash, your gift nourishes and connects our community while protecting the planet. You can help prevent over 100 tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions, and deliver over 140,000 pounds of nutritious food to people who need and appreciate it each month.

Food Stash has reached its 10 year anniversary, and our newest program - the weekly Rescued Food Market - has just turned 5 years old.

The vision for the Market was a place free of the stigma that can sometimes come with a free food ‘hand-out,’ where folks could find good food like whole fruits and vegetables, proteins, and other essential grocery staples, regardless of income.

One Rescued Food Market program member recently described what the Market means to them:

“So much less stress trying to figure out how the heck I’m going to eat and make meals AND I get to have snacks (yay!) when I can go to the market. I don’t usually have the extra for that.

Healthy stuff too, and that’s important.

Low income people are so restricted to lots of packaged, high sodium, not fresh food. So thanks to you all. I really appreciate the market. ”

Thanks to you and generous people like you, we rescue over 110,000 meals’ worth of good food every month and share it with neighbours, instead of seeing it wasted. This includes surplus dairy, fruits, and veggies from grocery stores and farms that would otherwise go to waste.

Together with the 54 nonprofit community partner organizations that we deliver food to, we can give the gift of good food, connection, and nourishment to over 13,500 people every week.

And right now, every dollar you give will be matched* so that your gift goes twice as far.

Please donate now if you can, and please help us spread the word! Thank you!

*Eligible donations will be matched up to $125,000 total - $100,000 in matching thanks to South Flats by PCI Developments and Low Tide Properties, and $25,000 from Anthem Properties.

Matching does not apply to restricted grants, anonymous donations, or existing monthly donations.
